The official currency is Quetzal (GTQ).
1 US Dollar = 7.42 GTQ

There are few ATMs in Guatemala and they often won't let you take out more than 1000 GTQ a day. It's annoying and because of the bank fees expensive. It might be a good idea to have some cash or traveller cheques.
